Current food security conditions are favourable across the Southern African region with most staple foods being readily available and accessible from own production and the local markets. Prices for the main staple foods continue to drop as the harvest progresses. FEWS NET Southern Africa, June 2010
Like anti-globalisation activism, the fair trade movement is not a clearly defined and demarcated group. While it is now spearheaded and institutionalised by number of recognised organisations, it remains a concept of alternative trade to the benefit of all as opposed to the bottom-line approach of free trade to the benefit of a few.
